  1. Would you be interested in writing about intellectual property rights, copyright and/or plagiarism?

I never thought it would be an issue for me personally, but one of my posts was actually copied in it’s entirety and posted to someone else’s blog (not one of those bot thingies either). I didn’t give permission; I wasn’t even asked. It’s not linked or attributed properly and it wasn’t used for anything that qualifies under Fair Use. I’m not very happy about it at all.

I think it’s important to respect other people’s work. Even if there were no copyright laws, that kind of thing is a violation. Plagiarism is wrong.

I’ve tried writing about it before in an attempt to explain why I think it’s wrong (although I don’t know why anyone should need to have it explained) and I had a terrible time finding the right words.

I’d be interested in hearing from you on the topic, if you’d be interested in writing about it.

  2. I’ll have a think about that one, Lottie. Like you, my reasons for why I believe it’s wrong seem rather obvious to me. It shouldn’t need to be explained. And yet there is so clearly a need.

    Watch this space 😉

  3. We used to talk about it on our old discussion forums. I was amazed at the number of people who don’t think it’s such a big deal. I mean, you should be flattered if someone thinks your work is good enough to rip off. And they’re just words, after all. It’s not like you’ve actually been injured or anything.

    Good grief!

It was one of the most frustrating debates I ever participated in because I just couldn’t get the words out. So I understand if it’s not something you want to tackle.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest here.

  4. Ugh! The creep who recently plagiarized me just emailed me back accusing me of hacking his site and threatening me with his attorney. I don’t know the first thing about hacking. He’s bluffing.

He didn’t even mention the work he stole. I had thought he might at least say it was a misunderstanding or something. Instead he tries to make me out to be the bad guy. No remorse whatsoever.

::sigh:: Sorry… I just figured this was the easiest place to tell it since some of the history is already recorded here.

    What a jerk. 😦

  5. Well, he blocked it with a password after my initial email. Now he’s deleted all the content and left a message that says “Due to hacking from Australia [blah blah]”. He’s so far off. In more ways than one. LOL

    But he’s at twusea.org

He sent me another email that sounded quite threatening. He told me to sue him or shut up and “think what you may, but watch what you say”.

    He’s a real creep.

  6. Looks like a bit of a dickhead to me! I wouldn’t worry too much about him. Your work has been removed now anyway, which is the important thing. I suppose that depends on just how threatening his email was, though. That kind of behaviour is highly unacceptable.

  7. Your work has been removed now anyway, which is the important thing.

Yep! That’s the most important thing!

The email bothered me a little at first, but now I think he was just blowing smoke. He got busted and it pissed him off. LOL

  8. I like this post…it’s a winding road that goes nowhere but takes photos anyway. (smile) Seriously, I like it!
