  2. Very, very nice. I read this and smiled due to the excellence. The description is amazing, very nice, congrats on a work well done. Are you thinking of publication on this?

  3. Probably not, Damian. I have tried with it in the past — however sporadically — but with no luck. Really, my knowledge of the short story market isn’t what it should be. Any suggestions?

  4. Hmm, since I’m a novice at this(haven’t published a short story yet, in the works on my first)I’ll tell you what I know. I’ve done some research and my best suggestion would be to just browse the web for magazine websites. They can be magazines in print or e-zines. Go to the website and find the submission guidelines. Find the one that appeals to you the most and is fairly popular. Try on that one. If it doesn’t work, try the next one that appeals to you, and keep moving down, the list.

  5. When it comes to writing, getting work published etc, Damian, we’re all novices, mate 😉 I think it’s important, as someone who’s been doing this a while, to talk to people who are just starting out. Things have changed so much since I first started writing that… well, it’s highly likely that there are some avenues/opportunities that you might know about that I’ve never considered, you know?

How’s the short story coming along, incidentally?

Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement, by the way. It all helps.

  6. Sorry I’m just now getting to this, Gary. I wanted to wait until I could sit down and give it my full attention.

It’s very good! I was hanging on every word all the way through. And I got all goose-pimply at the end.

    I like that! 😀

  7. Glad you enjoyed it, Lottie! I always want to write more short stories, but I never seem to have the time — or, rather, they always end up being novels, these days!

Do you think the ending was clear enough? This is to you, too, Damian.

  9. I thought the ending was great! Quite an ironic twist, isn’t it?

I linked to this, by the way, but for some reason the pingbacks aren’t going through.

  11. Yes, I’m a bit fond of the ending 🙂 I’m not usually that good at unexpected twists, but when I reread this please I just had this huge grin on my face at the end. It really worked for me, but I wasn’t sure if that was because I’d written it.

The pingbacks were in moderation. It seems that your husband has been busy on that front, too. My page hit count is on the rise again! I’m such a slut 😉

  12. If I had written a story that good with a ending like that, I’d be grinning too!

It’s weird about the pingbacks. Of all the posts I linked to, you’re the only one who actually got them. Wonder what happened?

  13. I’m not sure how other people treat pingbacks, to be honest. I always let the comment through but I suppose some, reasoning that the link will work anyway, maybe don’t? Or have they told you that they didn’t get them?

  14. One of the pingbacks should have gone to Mike and one to my own blog. Neither went through. The the others were to blogs I know allow pingbacks, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

But I didn’t mean to derail your discussion here. Just curious about what’s going on. Oh well… it’s no biggie, really.

  15. Yeah, we checked spam too. They weren’t there. Probably just a glitch this time. We’ll see what happens next week when I try it again.

    Oh well… thanks, Gary. 🙂

  16. Fantastic piece of work, Gary. I came across this by chance while looking for a research paper and I sat entranced reading it, to the consternation of my homework. The ending was marvellous too it really tied the whole story together and clued me into the title as well. Brilliant move, chap.
